What can the church do?

Survivor Response
For my healing process, I went to my church pastor for guidance. There was none. Most churches are really not equipped to handle domestic violence. They have no referral information and the worse thing I found out was they were telling me what the scriptures say about the role of a husband and wife. When I asked for scripture that would support me to divorce myself from him, my pastor had no answer. But the Holy Spirit did . . . I have met so many wonderful sisters in Christ here at Carmel . . . The ministry that I am involved with is the Domestic Violence Advocacy Council Interfaith Committee – finding ways to bridge the gap between the faith based institutions and domestic violence. As we celebrate National Domestic Violence Month, please remember those who no longer have a voice and be encouraged to learn more about domestic violence in the church, school, workplace and home. You never know if that woman, child, or man you work with, worship with or live next door to is a victim of domestic violence or is the abuser.
