Theologian Response
Jesus specifically warns against hypocrisy that seeks to conceal rather than to heal (Luke 12:1:-3) . An evil that is concealed is nevertheless an evil and must be brought to the light. The Bible not only condemns physical, mental, verbal, and sexual abuse but also issues strong injunction s against any sort of tolerance for such conduct. (Proverbs 3:31 ; 24:1-2; Rom. 1:32). Rather than indifference or acceptance, the faith community is called to address wrongdoing within the fold of faith. (1 Cor. 5:1-5; Mt. 18: 15-17;James 5:19, 20;Titus 3: 2-11;1 Thess. 5:14; 2 Thess. 3:14-15; I Tim. 4:20) Believers are charged to see that justice is done to the injured and protection given to the weak.
