Partnering for Change: The Church Responds to Domestic Violence

The Sligo Seventh Day Adventist Church in Takoma Park, Maryland was the site for the October 2008 PASCH (Peace and Safety in the Christian Home) conference <www.peaceandsafety.com>.  The RAVE Project was represented by Nancy Nason-Clark, Barb Fisher-Townsend and Steve McMullin.

Nancy gave a keynote address entitled “Paving the Pathway between the Steeple and the Shelter: Twenty Years of Research on Abuse in Families of Faith.”

Barb did a workshop entitled “Faith-Based Programs for Men who Act Abusively.”

Steve was a panel member discussing “Referrals Between Clergy and Community-Based Resources.”

On Saturday we launched the book “Beyond Abuse in the Christian Home:  Raising Voices for Change,” edited by Catherine Kroeger, Nancy Nason-Clark and Barbara Fisher-Townsend.  To purchase a copy of this book go to:  http://astore.amazon.com/thrapr-20

On Sunday morning the RAVE Team, including Julie Owens, did a presentation on how best to make use of our RAVE on-line resources.

The entire conference was uplifting and motivating, with many opportunities for networking, renewing acquaintances, engaging in dialogue regarding domestic violence in communities of faith, and worshipping through prayer and music.  We look forward to the next PASCH conference which is currently scheduled for 2010.
