I believe that there would be resistance in the congregation to Rev. Jones’s intervention. Many in the congregation might see this as a personal issue that Rev. Jones shouldn’t be involved in. Others in the congregation may feel that this issue should be handled by a “professional” who is better equipped to handle family violence issues. Many in the congregation may argue that Rev. Jones is spending too much of his time giving spiritual council and support to Mildred.  Also, some congregants may be of the opinion that the Pastor’s role in every family scenario is to strive to keep the marriage intact and encourage reconciliation in the relationship.
